Wisdom teeth anyone?

Dentist told me I need to get my wisdom teeth pulled out. But, I think she is lying to me. I hate dentists, they only want to hurt me. So, let's say she is not lying and I wait forever. Does that mean when they do come out, it's gonna hurt like a mutha? Is it better to get them pulled just now? *huk huk tear drops*
 
From what I've heard, the longer you wait to have them pulled, the more dangerous they are to pull. I'm sure you know the risks behind getting your wisdom teeth pulled so I won't get into that. Assuming you're still a teenager, I strongly urge you to get them removed now. Mine came out like a dream - didn't feel a thing and there wasn't a whole lot of pain afterwards. The best thing for you to do is get them removed as soon as possible.
 
Get them pulled. Pulling is bad, having an oral surgeon dig them out of your jawbone is 100 times worse. And really, as long as they put you totally under you'll never know what's happening. If they only offer local anesthesia, find soomeone else to do it.

Whoa! I got the local when I had mine pulled and I'd definitely go for that again. Everyone that I've talked to that got general when they had theirs pulled was sick for a couple of days. I was completely fine and have only one memory of the surgery and that was when I woke up for about 5 seconds in the middle. My personal opinion is to go for local. I didn't feel a thing.
 
OK, but this guy is scared of dentists. Do you really think he wants to look at sharp metal objects lacerating his mouth?
 
I'm not a dentist, but next time they tell you that you need to have your wisdom tooth pulled, ask them to show you the x-rays and take a look at your wisdom tooths. Are they growing sideways and hitting your molars?
 
Here's what I remember of the surgery: they put a block in my mouth to keep it open, they stuck something in my arm, *black*, wake up for 5 seconds, *black*, "OK, you're done." And trust me, I got the local. I don't know how he managed to knock me out, but it was definitely the local.
 
If they stuck it in your arm, it wasn't local. Unless they were operating on your arm too. Local means they inject your jaw and you never black out.
 
Yeah, like I said, I have no idea how he managed to give me the local like that, but he was supposed to. I suppose it's always possible that he forgot. You aren't supposed to eat before you get a general because you can throw it up and then choke to death on it. I was originally signed up for the general but I forgot and ate part of a bagel before I went in. I told them that and they said there was no way they would attempt general since I had even a little bit of food in my stomach. This has always confused me but I don't see the mystery getting solved any time soon. *shrugs*
 
oh man, I'm sorry. It's been nice knowing you. You know that about 5% of the people who have their wisdom teeth pulled don't survive? They put you down, and you never wake up! Remember, it's not an operation, it's just a procedure.

It sucks Donkey balls and you'll look like a chipmunck for a few days but get it done.
 
I had mine taken out couple years ago. I was 23 then. My bottom 2 wisdom teeth were impacted according to my dentist. Meaning they had no room to grow due to other teeth already around it. So they were touching my jaw bone and it hurt really bad. So bad that I had to go to the emergency room.

Had to get an appointment with a oral surgeon to take them out. He had to drill out the bottom 2 as they were impacted and the top two were easy took about 30 secs each. The pain was nothing compared to what I had when i went to the emergency room.

Anyway my suggestion to you is to take them out as early as possible.
 
mine come out in 7 days....a lil worried, but not too bad, the doctor doing it is one of those nerdish doctor types that looks like he LIVES his work so that makes me comfortable, plus following the surgery I get ice cream and percosett (sp?) LOL
 
Get them done ASAP. The longer you wait, the more it will hurt. Even still it don't hurt much. I had mine done this summer (they were impacted....'bout as bad as it gets) on a friday morning & was good to go monday morning. I slept most of the day friday & saturday, but by sunday I was feeling pretty good & monday it was like nothing happened (other than the stiches). Just don't do what my dad did.....he was told @ 19 he needed them out....went in @ 38 to get them taken out. It was a 5hr long surgery & he was in bed for a week straight.
 
I had all four of mine out when I was 18. I had a local and gas - ahhhhh that was some nice drugs. I had very very little swelling. I was actually eating solid food within 12 hrs of the surgery. My pain medication made me nauseous so I ended up taking aspirin - pain was not a big deal.

On the other hand, a friend of mine had his out and nothing but problems for about a year afterward. He swelled up and looked like a bobble head doll. HEHE.

yeah, i don't think EVERYBODY needs to get them removed. even my dentist still has hers, and she was teasing me that i was afraid to have them removed, then she told me about hers. She said if it doesn't hurt, then I don't have to. But the larger question is probably what you said, which is whether or not they are growing all funky and getting in the way.

If not, then you're getting an unnecessary procedure. i think there's always the possibility that pulling wisdom teeth is just trying to be made into an automatic procedure so they can make more cash off of you (your health provider).
