yes it is good, i dont want to buy insurance or anything else from your wife or anyone else who calls me on my home phone. i have insureance, i am happy with what i have and if i wasnt i would go out and find what i was looking for on my own. if she ever did call me i probably gave her the run around best i could untell i finaly came clean and told her i had no intention of ever buying her product and then told her to piss off in the hopes that it would presuade her to avoid doing such things in the future. thats if i had the time, if not i would have told her to drop me a postcard or something in writeing though the mail as i dont contuct busness over the telephone. personaly i think they should make solisiting over the phone lines illegal not only for busnesses but also political and charitable organizations under the grounds of desturbing the peace, granted my dream will never come true but at least this is a step in the right direction.

edit: i read that comment and felt compeled to respond right away. after reading the rest of the thread i would like to add a bit. if its not darth maul's wife calling please revise my comments to say her cowrokers in place of her. as for the "insults" comeing back him him, i must remind you all that one will only find such comments insulting if they are true. i mean after all i could call a preson a "redneck hick" but if that person was born and raised in nyc woundn't find that insuliting at all, they would laugh at me for being so off base with my comments. however if that person comes from the hills of kentucky he might feel compeled to lay the stomp down on me just like darth maul did with worms. as for all the people backing darth maul, i say shame to you. need i remind you that is often people with such self serving attuides and dispositon toward violence that beat their wife and kids or anyone else that trys to vioce an oposesing openion. not to say darth maul beats his wife, but that could do a lot to explain how she can justify working for such a sleasy company. i mean after all its beter than prositution and, as horable ast it is to think about, you must realise that such situations often drive women to justfying that carrer choice too.

ohh and no offence to intened anyone from kentucky with my example. i chose the example becuase i was born in kentucky myself.

No offense, but selling insurance has got to be the worst profession outside of flipping burgers. When I graduated college, the job market was tough, so I considered going to work for Met Life. That is, until they wanted me to contact all of my friends and family to try and sell them insurance before I even started working. I said forget it. I'd rather pan handle on the street than do bug people I know to try and sell them insurance they probably don't need.

I get downright nasty with telemarketers these days. I have caller id and I'd say that 95% of the callers that show up as "unknown", especially around dinner time are telemarketers. I just lift up the phone receiver and slam it down if it says unknown. If I do pick it up and a telemarketer starts to speak, I just hang right up. I don't even give them a chance to talk. I used to feel bad about doing this, but after years of enduring all the telemarketer calls, I'm fed up. If they don't like getting hung up on, don't call me.

Ditto, ditto, ditto on Illinois; Chicago in particular. First we have have to get rid of the "blow hard" politicians i.e.; Democrats. (Why do you think they call it the "Windy City"). It has nothing to do with the weather as most people think.

The petition sounds like a good idea, but I'm afraid it won't mean squat until the politics change. :disgust:

I appreciate the effort that went into this thread but fail to see how it deserves a sticky more than any other good thread here.

> Florida: You may subscribe for more than one year at a time. The first year's subscription is $10.00 per number; Renewal fee is $5.00 per number per year thereafter.

Yowsa! I'll just hang up. I've got 'supra telecom' as my local telco and they have free (well no additional charge with the feature package) privacy director which redirects all non-callerID enabled #'s to a screener which I can then choose to answer or not. Press "1" to accept the call otherwise I just hangup.

For friends / family calling from work or a cell phone or some other hidden number, they just say their name and when I pick up the phone I can answer. Or not. :p

It's probably stopped about 99% of the solicitor calls, still get an occasional computer generated one that I hear part of their spiel where the "name" is supposed to come through. I just hang up on those.

This link to NoCallsPlease.com is a scam. Most of you missed out on what happened in the last thread. So read this.

I don't live in PA, but I don't know why you say that site is a scam. The link you post to the FTC refers to a crook calling YOU and asking for personal info like social security number, etc. Nothing to do with that site.

That no call web site seems to be a PA no call registry. If you look at the form they dont ask for any private info like credit card or social security #, just your name, address, and telephone #. The godaddy whois seems to be pretty legit for that site. If it is a scam, please provide links to previous threads, or more concrete info. Thanks.

The Pennsylvania link is very much legit (even linked on PA's state website).

Yeah I was pretty sure it was. Especially after the original person (troll? telemarketer? bored lamer? ignorant foo? :) ) didn't follow up my question asking for evidence.
Plus the link he provided had NOTHING to do with the web site in question. His website link was about a scam where people call YOU and say they are from nocall lists. The website in question is where you contact a state agency and provide info.

If people don't know this already, in general you do NOT want to provide personal information over the phone to people who call YOU. You should ALWAYS call THEM to confirm that they are who they say they are. Then give the information. I.e. if they are from a bank or company you should call the main line, then dial thier extension. Then you can at least confirm they are probably legit. If they are legit they will always be willing to provide you with a number to contact them. If not, then don't give them anything.

Think about it, first its guns, now its speech. If you don't like marketers, don't buy the crap they sell. Your convinience should not come at the cost of someone else's freedom. Boo to all of you who support this legislation so thoughtlessly.

spwango ... that is quite possibly the most retarded thing i've ever heard. People pay MONEY to have a phone line. Now why do they do this ... generally, its to be able to communicate with other people (friends/family/business/etc...). Now if some telemarketer calls, he is using a resource which a person payed for WITHOUT that person's permission. How would you like it if people started randomly taking your car for a ride without your permission? So what if you payed for it .... so what if you needed to get to work at 8:30. A person can talk on the sidewalk all he wants ... I'm not paying for his time. But when someone calls me without my permission .... for the express purpose to sell me something i expressed no previous interest in, NO THANKS! You are stealing my time and money there and i believe full well that you should be punished for it

For those of you that don't have state wide call lists you may want to utilize the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) Telephone Preference Service (TPS). This is a service to assist those consumers in decreasing the number of national commerical calls received at home. You can register online for a $5 fee or you can mail in a free registration.

Information on this service can be found at http://www.dmaconsumers.org/offtelephonelist.html

Hope that this info helps!
