Wisconsin law would allow toddlers to hunt

The previous bill set the age at 12, while 10-year-olds could hunt with a “mentor,” usually a parent or a guardian. The new law removes that restriction, leaving the minimum age up to parents to decide. It also eliminates the limit on the number of guns young hunters can carry at one time.

Wonderful, Simply Wonderful - The Kids should also be allowed to hunt with `Bump Feed Stocks`

Did anyone actually ask for these Laws? I suspect they were made out of spite.

I don't have a problem with this, because it's in Wisconsin, a state I have no interest in visiting.

I’m not sure why this is a bad thing, these kids are going to learn gun safety and to respect the weapon etc. Its the kids whose parents don’t know anything about it and have guns laying around the house not locked up and such that are in danger..

Expansion of gun rights is good for capitalism. It's a profit center that mistakenly has "constitutional support." What well-regulated militia does a five-year-old join?

Well past the "well regulated militia" nonsense by now. What the amendment means now is everyone gets to buy the guns the industry wants to sell them.

Mentally ill? Not a problem, here, take two and pay the cashier. 7 years old? No problem, you should have the right to protect your home... Blind? Not a problem at all, here's your CCW.

And the toddler bit is just being dramatic. This allows kids under 12 and 10 to hunt, my 9 year old girl would be allowed for instance which I don’t see as a problem to start learning. It’s just "Sky is falling" talk to go from 10 to 2..

So make it illegal to have the weapon assembled without the active parts locked away in a proper gun safe (a PROPER gun safe, not some $150 contraption bought at walmart).

It would also solve the problem with most illegal guns since they are almost all just legally purchased guns that were "stolen" (rather sold for petty cash) by people not in the system.

All an "illegal gun" is anyway is a gun used to commit a crime. That is why the stats look the way they do.

Well, I suppose that is OK as long as breastfeeding is still illegal... Seeing a nipple would scar them for life but handling a firearm and killing things is just fine... Let's forget that part about kids who like to kill animals growing up as sociopaths...

I’m not sure what the law is around storage but that’s besides the point. The Wisconsin law just allows the parents to decide when to teach their kids about guns. It’s not a bad thing no matter how y’all try to spin it.

Violently punished kids seem to want to mirror that behavior onto any "weaker" being. Guns therefore worry me no matter what the age of the bearer. Fortunately parents seem less violent nowadays.

For the sake of safety laws are set with sort of arbitrary age limits. Why should operating a gun be exempt? We don't allow a 9 year old to drive on the street just because their parents are in the car with them.

Blind people have been able get hunting licenses in Wisconsin for decades.

Yeah, somehow I think that isn't a bright idea but I do think awarding blind people CCW's is even worse.

Of course, when you can shoot a guy in the face with your shotgun and not get charged with anything then it's not that surprising, it's just "accidents happen, no way to prevent this" as per use.

Does not allowing a 9 year old to hunt really promote safety? Or is it just an as you say arbitrary law?

I’d rather leave the discretion up to the parents.

Why do you care about gun laws in the US so much? Also, I can quote part of the amendment and make it sound good for pro firearm types; " the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"

I know it's been declared legally moot, but that "nonsense" had such far-reaching, devastating effects.

See above.

Indeed. I knew one growing up who'd capture birds, strap firecrackers to them, light them, and watch them fly off. This was in a fairly affluent suburban neighborhood. I think he's in jail now.

That's just... so very wrong.

More details please?
