I actually think recall elections are bullshit as well. The whole purpose of setting someone's term of service at a number of years is so that politicians can be free to make the decisions they think are best without having to worry about being booted out for it. (and of course because we don't want elections every 15 minutes) Keeping a representative slave to the fluctuations of public opinion inhibits representative democracy.

As much as it warms my heart to watch Wisconsin turn on the crazies, on the whole I think recall elections are bad governance.

...but so long as those checks keep coming in from the Federal Government they will be fine. Oh, wait, those checks are about to end. Holly shit, Batman, they just have to pay their own bills! Now what will they do?

I can understand your sentiment (John Kennedy's Profiles In Courage was an inspiring book to me as a youth) but Wisconsin does set a pretty high barrier against recall elections. The official must have been in office for a year (the reason I assume no recall against Walker yet), within 60 days 25% of the electorate that vote in the last governor's race must sign a petition, the petition must specifically state reason(s) for the recall related to official duties.

Compared to California, Texas has more government workers per capita, has more woman on WIC per capita, has more people on SNAP (formerly the AFDC) per capita.

Loser spent $2k. Winner spent $300k+. Loser is a wife beater. Repeat: loser has a history of being arrested for disorderly conduct and is a wife beater. If Dems think they're going to take back the WI House & Senate, they're delusional.

Being a fucking liar, so you can never trust what I say, Texas is doing quite well in the economy area compared to any other State, especially California. I really wish California would get its act together because all those fucked up Californians are moving here en-mass and starting to fuck up this State too.

Point stands. Dems have to recall three of six Repubs and not lose either of the remaining Dem recalls. If a wife beater who spent less than 1% of his opponent can pull 1/3 of the election, that does not bode well for the Dems.

I'm not sure how it works up in Wisconsin, being a fucking liar and all, but I would assume that all one candidate would need is just one more vote than his oppoent.....or am I wrong again? You know being a fucking liar and all.

As I said, delusional.

We all know how great the impact of campaign spending is on the outcome of any election in America. We also know that beating your wife is an entirely loathsome behavior and one hell of a tough act to sell. As much as I personally despise both the Repubs and Dems in this state, but do not support unions, I personally would never vote for a candidate with a history of violence, let alone violence against women.

Keep lol'ing all you want, I am confident in my prediction that the Dems will not retake the WI State Senate based on the outcome of this earliest election, and see no point in further, pointless prognostication.

I'm pretty sure you don't know what you're talking about.

The vote percentage he got for the special election are almost identical to what he got when he was re-elected in 2008, which was a very good year for Democrats. His opponent in that year raised only 15% of the money that Hansen did as well. While that's not 1%, there was still a similar and massive fundraising disparity in that year.

So really, the Democrats performed as well in this election as they did in the most favorable election for them in a generation. Recall elections are notable for their low turnouts and so I personally wouldn't try and draw many larger conclusions from this, but to draw the conclusion that the result here bodes poorly for the Democrats would be the exact opposite of what the evidence shows.
