man, i wish i lived somewhere that hunting cats was legal. cats are worthless.

YOU ARE WORTHLESS!!!! I WISH WE LIVED SOMEWHERE WERE HUNTING YOU WOULD BE LEGAL

ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all wild cats must die. you have no idea how they can totally destroy a habitat.

my small town is over run by wild cats. its a huge problem and guess what, the county has washed their hands of it. if cats become a problem for a home owner (like me) it is up to that home owner to fix the situation.
LOL what exactly are they doing to "destroy the habitat"?

Your houses and sewage are probably doing much worse.

anytime you introduce a new predator species that is not native to a habitat it causes damage. Cats are not native to ANY habitat in the US. they kill for fun which takes food away from the native species.

basic biology dude...

They should be killed, feral cats are very bad for native populations of animals.
Yeah, but for every feral cat running around, there are plenty of perfectly tame pets whose idiot owners think they need to be outside.

we let our cats outside, explain why that makes us idiots

1. It's unhealthy for the cat. The average lifespan of an outdoor cat is about half that of an indoor cat

2. It causes damage to the property of neighbors, and you are never held accountable for it as you would be if they knew it was your cat.

3. It's unhealthy for other animals that the cat meets.

Given the above, especially point 1 which only a truely delusional person would ever dispute, it makes you an idiot in the same way it would make you an idiot to let a 3 year old child play in a park unattended while you go down the street and watch a movie.

unless indoor cats live to be almost 40 ALL THE TIME im just gonna say the 1 is plain fing wrong

we have had 8 cats in my lifetime, every one of them was we let out when they wanted out all of them lived to be over 15, oldest was 22

2) we pretty much have teh only cats in our area, noone has ever complained about them, and I can honestly say ive never seen or known of any of them digging in peoples trash or whatever

3) how so? my cats dont really meet other animals, they are pussys and run away from just about anything other then birds and mice

And there would be much less uproar (well, certainly from me), if the proposed ordinance was limited to allow killing of strays on one's own property. Where I take issue is when someone just passing through is allowed to shoot random, collar-less cats on public grounds.

What is going to happen when people's pets are inadvertently killed? As for those who say this is a non-issue if you keep your cats inside, indoor cats escape. If someone shot my lost pet instead of ignoring it or returning it to the pound, there would be payback.

I fail to see that the harm caused by feral cats is worse than the drawbacks of this proposal.

How about stiffer penalties on people who abandon their pets, and mandatory spaying/neuturing if adopted from shelters?

Statistically true, but my guess is the numbers are skewed horribly by deaths due to confrontations with vehicles and other wildlife. While they have to contend with parasites, outdoor cats are generally fitter (i.e. not fat), with better teeth.

2. It causes damage to the property of neighbors, and you are never held accountable for it as you would be if they knew it was your cat.

Property damage from a cat? Please elaborate, I cannot imagine the type of damage you are referring to.

3. It's unhealthy for other animals that the cat meets.

Could be a good thing. Although, I have indoor cats now, I grew up with outdoor felines. They handily took care of the mice and moles on both ours and our neighbors' property. If memory serves, this is why cats were domesticated in the first place.

I can. this has happend twice to me about a year appart. I have a crawl space under my house and i have to go in there from time for what ever reason. I did my thing and closed it up. well a damn cat got in there and tore the crap out of my insulation. I didnt know a cat got in there until my wife and I heard it meowing. i went out and opened the door and let it out, but the damage was done. The second time had the exact thing happen. but this time when i looked under the house a it was a different cat and had done worse damage to my insualtion and tore up the fix i did to the first time. I got pissed and go my .22 out and elimated the problem.

Nobody owned the cats they were wild as you could get. I wish the second one did have a collar because i would have demaned the owner pay for the damage his stupid cat did to my house.
