Wisconsin -1 Lake

Homerboy

Lifer
so, we had a "little" rain up here in Wisconsin over the past few days (11+ inches in 3-4 days) rivers flooded etc all over the place. Lake up in the Dells area basically buckled and teamed up with nearby river.

amazing what Mother nature can do when she wants

Lol at the video clip.

"Hunny... the house washed away again..."

or

"I've always wanted a houseboat!"

i saw that on the news this morning. i live in waukesha right down by the fox river in an apartment. the news crews have been all over the place this morning and the water level is crazy. i cannot get into the parking garage in my complex because of the high water. i had to park in a municipal lot nearby last night and most likely will have to agian tonight and probably tomorow. i have never seen anything like this in my life. they also said this morning that the 11 inches we got over the weekend is equal to the average total for the whole summer, and shattered the old record of 8.something inches.

Yeap
I'm right in Wauwatosa. We went down to the Menominee shortly after round one. The river had crested above all the pedestrian bridges, flooded heart park (40+ ft out from the normal river banks)... amazing the rain we took on.

What's wrong with tribal names?
Lake Forest and East Bay are boring sounding.

I live in a town in IL called Wauconda, it means spirit water in some native American tribal language.

Yea, saw that online today. That's gonna put a dent in the tourism trade up there.

We have a couple stores in the area...one of them has 4 feet of water in its parking lot with boats passing through.

Yea... seriously. Why don't we just mandate the naming of towns out of some pool of a couple of hundred "acceptable" candidates.

I mean, who wants thier part of the country to be unique at all? It would be much better if the whole nation was one big homogenous mass. Suburbs full of McMansions as far as the eye can see... that would be like paradise.

Wauwatosa ftw, but it's hart park, not heart park 😉

If they wanted their land, they should have fought harder.

Hah, a supernova or quasar is the "true" power of nature.
Nothing like vaporizing a planetary system, or compressing thousands upon thousands of stars into a singularity.😀

The question now is, are they going to simply repair things and get them back the way they were, or are they going to do it right, and ensure that this can't happen again?

Governor has said they are going to repair/refill the lake.... Ummm yeah. Its no small pond. I'm not footing the bill so these people can reclaim their lakefront property.

To my understanding it wasn't so much any human design thing that failed, it was literally the land mass between the lake and river that pretty much gave way. Dare I say it was "natural" in occurrence (granted obviously there are homes, roads, dams etc that all played into the equation)

i think it would be worse for us not to foot the bill, because not having that lake there kills the local economy, which means people will either move, possibly out of state or need government assistance of some sort anyway. i think it is in the best interests to have the repairs done and and get the place back to normal then leave it the way it is.

well I think what we could do too is let everything settle and maybe we can use the "new land/lake/river(/marshland?) to our advantage too. I simply can't imagine what rebuilding a lake is going to cost.

i would be interesting to see what it will look like once things have settles down a bit as well, but i have a feeling it is going to be like a swamp and have no tourist attraction what so ever which will be very bad for the surrounding area. i dont even want to know what it will cost to fix but hopefully the federal government will kick in something. we will just have to wait and see what happens i guess.

Florida...America's wang. Being from Minnetonka, Minnesota (both Indian names) I have to think you have better things to do like watch out for seniors driving through crowds killing people than worry about northern city names. So once you solve that problem feel free to speak up, until then enjoy your penis state. 😉

interesting you resurrected this. The downpours are just about to start here again. More flooding. More dams breaking. Woohoo!
