Do you have to have the same os on both computers to hook up wireless. I have xp pro on my pc and 98 on the laptop.thanks in advance

are you wanting to hook the two directly or are you going to be using a wireless router? if you aren't going to use a router then it will depend on the software for the wireless cards
 
You shouldn't have a problem with different OS's. Until recently, I was using w2K on my desktop and win98 on my laptop.
 
You should use workgroups and not a domain. You should be ok. When in doubt Fdisk /MBR and install XP... LOL
