This is the forum with the smartest people I know, so I'm asking here.
I bought a dishwasher on clearance at Lowes. Saved a couple hundred bucks. The bottom of the door got bent on the way back when it fell over, c'est la vie. I don't really give a damn, I can straighten it out with a rubber mallet and it's below the point where it affects the seal.
However, this part underneath: (huge tinypic image) http://i36.tinypic.com/15ppaud.jpg
has a dent in it. Should I replace it before I hook it up, or is it ok? I figure it should be fine unless it's now shorted out.
As for the wiring, the old washer was on an orange power cord. I'm reasonably sure the dishwasher plug is a 20amp circuit, but the cord is definitely not rated for 20 amps. I talked to the installation guys at Lowes when I was just there buying the paste and twist caps (more on that in a sec) and he said they just grab cords that are pretty much the same and use them for all their new dishwasher installs. It might not be the most robust choice, but I've always found that there's a certain level of half-ass that can be done safely.
Here's the dishwasher wiring: (huge tinypic image) http://i38.tinypic.com/2wf8jz9.jpg
No connector box, just the wires and what looks like a ground screw. I thought the wires were aluminum so I got the anti-oxidant paste for them, but apparently on closer examination it's just a coating on copper. I still slathered them with paste and connected them using standard twist connectors and wired the ground wire to the screw, all from the old stripped orange cord.
Are things going to end badly? 😀
