I see where Linksys (WMA11B, WMLS11B, WMCE54AG) and D-Link (DSM-320) have these wireless media players on the market, anybody have them, like them, hate them etc? They look pretty interesting.

(Apologies for cross posting but didn't get one response in a week on the Peripherals board)
 
I use my Ipaq 5550 to stream audio wirelessly using 802.11b from my desktop to my Ipaq on my backporch. I use this handy little program called Windows Media Encoder and it works great. I also use my Ipaq as a music player when not on the network. Players like an Ipod hold alot more because they are made to do that one thing but I can surf the web on my Ipaq and do email, over wifi too.
 
I'm more interested in something I can hook up to my stereo (or better yet multiple stereo systems) I have in the house. The Linksys "boombox style" product looks pretty cool, detatch speakers and just use base unit with a stereo system, attach speakers and use it outside at the pool etc (assuming good wireless signal). I'm not too concerned with DIVX capability (don't need a portable DVD player) and I'm not sure I really even need the abilty to show pictures etc.

How about the cheap product that RCA has out, the LYRA Wireless? Uses rf frequencies I believe, not 802.11x, and looks like it can be had for under $50. Anyone, Bueller, Bueller, Bueller.....
 
I seriously need to get something to hook my mp3's from my laptop to my HT system through 802.11g
a device that can do mp3+jpeg+mpeg would more than enough suffice for now....

where can i get reviews and options for such a device?
 
Gordita, I did some reading on CNET, a lot of info there. Lots of reviews, a lot of negative ones on the cheaper dievices as you might imagine. (people like to complain more than they like to be positive). There are some devices that will do what you want, most of them in the $175-$250 range. Do some checking there.

The Zensonic 500 looks interesting. It plays Divx, Xvid, from your computer over the network. Gigabit lan (which is what I would use, I think it's dumb trying to do video over wireless) or wireless networking. USB 2 port for hooking a usb mass storage device directly to the unit. Built in DVD/ CD drive.

What ever dude. I can stream video at work seamlessly over a wireless 802.11G network using VLC. True I can't get it to stream at home yet with a hybrid of B/G systems but I'll get the Ironed out.
