Wireless

With wireless should one only worry about someone near them connecting to their router? Or does it make it easier for hackers(anyone in the world) to hack into your computer? I am sure someone miles away can't connect to my wireless? I am a newb and don't know the pros/cons on it over wired.

I got WEP enabled and put in a password and chose shared key. Whatever all that means? Whats open key mean?

Well...I would just use 128-bit WEP (if both devices support it) and also use MAC Filtering. Set it so only MAC addresses in the list have access. You can get around both of these, but for all but the serious hacker that wants to sit outside your house for hours it's fine.

Although I think 128 WEP and mac authentication is decent enough for home use....

it would take me about 10 minutes to comprimise that (if that long)
