Wireless Woes

I am having trouble keeping my parents machine connected to my wireless network.

I am using a WGR614 by netgear and it used to work fine. I then had my problems and whatnot, then updated to the latest firmware.

Now their comp will NOT keep connected! It starts out at 54mbs, slows to 11, then 5.5, then 1, and eventually disconnects and takes forever to reconnect.

I have NO idea whats wrong, ive tried wep, disabling wep, setting my router to use burst mode, disable burst mode, use b+g, g only, b only...

Ive added it to the mac address exclusion and disabled wep...nothing seems to work.

Their card is a WMP54G by linksys with latest drivers running under winxp. I tried the knowledge base for BOTH netgear and linksys and cant find anything

Help?

Netgear and D-link have been having some firmware problems recently. There is not much you can do till they update it.

Upgrading Firmware turned into a form of ?Snake Oil?.

No reason to update Firmware unless you have a problem, and you know that the new firmware would solve it.

You can find a lot of Posts that people complains are answered with a flat response ?Upgrade your Firmware?.

Just to get a response ?I already did and it does not helping?.
