Wireless VS Wired

I was thinking about going to a wireless Wi-Fi network at home. I currently have a linksys router hooked up to my 2 pcs at home but would like to move one of my pcs to the other side of the room without running ethernet wires all over the house. So i have been looking at the new D-Link AirPlus XtremeG router and PCI cards. But i have a couple questions i was hoping some of you could answer for me b4 i do this.

First and most importantly is it fast enough to play online games?

And do i really need to go with the 802.11g for this? The 802.11b is cheaper and i really dont need to transfer files between my 2 pcs. If i ever do i can always just burn it to CD.

Im basically just wondering if the technology is there to run my internet as fast as my current wired router does.

I doubt it. I haven't found a good use for G yet, although my router has bought B/G. You should be fine with B.

Since you internet connection will still be way slower than wireless B, it won't affect your internet speeds at all, and will work fine for online games. If you aren't going to be transfering large files between the PC's then wireless B will be just fine, thats what I use.

if you play online then B will be fast enough for you....If you do lan games for transfer lots of files then you might want a G.

I have a D-link Extreme G wireless set up at my house and I love it.
It works Great at times I even transfers files faster than on my wired network

G for scalabiltiy in the future. B for existing technologies. B is plenty sufficient for gaming, but make sure you know the range limitations of your router and check the distance of your PC. The signal can fall off rapidly at a distance.
