I currently own 2 Linksys WRT54G routers, and my computer has the Linksys Wireless G PCI adapter.
When I first got the hardware everything worked fine, didn't have a problem with my connection. But I was gone from home for quite a while and during that time there have been lots of problems with the wireless internet.
When I started living at home again I often have had to "rotate" my routers as they would start lagging horribly after about a month's worth of use.
I use wireless internet as the computer room is pretty far from the router and I am unable to run cables to connect the two.
Yesterday I went out to the store and bought the D-link Pre-N RangeBooster Router along with the PCI adapter. This has lowered the lag I've been experiencing over the last couple of days but I am still lagging more than I've used to.
I have also installed DD-WRT on one of my linksys routers and upped the Xmit Power from 28mW to 50/70/80/100mW with little help.
It is not the cable connection as when I connect directly to the cable modem with my laptop, I experience no lag.
My question is, what causes this horrible lag about every one month? Why have I not experienced this problem in the beginning when I started using wireless internet years ago? And why has getting brand new hardware not solved the problem?
I can't think of any new devices which would cause "interference" being added to the house.
Anyone able to think of possible solutions to my problem?
As a side note, I am thinking of returning the D-link gear and trying out the D-link gaming router, not sure which adapter I would want to use with it though.
