Wireless Survey Software

There are many wireless survey software packages available, some free, some cost a TON of money. I've used a number of the free packages, I've seen some that are able to map the AP radius but haven't been able to find them again.

I'm looking for the best free package, the best low cost package, and the best overall package if possible.

I've used netstumbler and a number of others but am looking for alternatives :)

Thanks

These guys are the alleged leader in site survey and analysis:

http://www.ekahau.com

They are also pretty pricey; the best (or even within the top couple spots) usually is.

Aside from Netstumbler (Windows) or Kismet (*nix) I'm not familiar with any free or cheap survey software ... they are really survey software, but the can be used as part of the suite.

Most of the others are more of a "wireless sniffer" type application, not specifically a survey tool. Another (much cheaper, extremely competent, "not as pretty" analyzer is from TamoSoft: http://www.tamos.com/products/commview . I've used it for years and I"m happy with it. It does NOT have the expert that the others have (hence, cheaper), but I don't need the expert, I do my own looking and evaluation. The expert would save a little time, but after a while, you get used to what to look for.

For site survey, Ekahau holds the title, I believe. NIce stuff ($$$$$$$$$)

Good Luck

Good god Flukes SOFTWARE, not even the hardware is $3187.09 for interpretAIR. Better off getting an Etherscope for that price

Ekahau...Ekahau Site Survey 2.1 Pro, $3,695. JEEBUS this isn't cheap...

I'm saving up for a wi-spy. I think there's some integration with kismet newcore too, but I'm not positive.

I'm also trying to setup a "big" kismet station, so if anyone has extra wireless devices they want to give me, let me know. ;)

Cognio is a great spectrum analyzer, use it all the time. This is a must have tool for anybody supporting wireless networks.

wireless is fun :). I wish the tools were cheaper, but they are rather specialized. I've been having fun with the suggestions I've gotten so far (the ones I can download at least) If I had unlimited funds I'd be a kid in a candy store.

Site survey is a profitable service. You could make the costs back in a couple jobs.
