Wireless speed very slow...help?

My desktop sees download speed tests in excess of 7MB. My laptop via wireless (g) sees speeds around 2300kbps. Anything I should try to increase me speeds on the laptop?

The laptop is the only one on the network. The only other wireless devices are 2 tivos and a wii, but they connect only sporadically for software updates.

I do have WEP enabled.

You could try changing the channel its on. There might be interference that is causing it to be lower.

changing channels is the first thing to try - 1, 6 or 11.

You can also try forcing 802.11g mode only.

And try testing with the client in the same room as the AP.

I do have WEP enabled.

1. Use WPA if you can, with a long randomized passkey -- it's much more secure than WEP, and no more difficult to set up, assuming everything supports it.

2. You could try local network tests to see what your wireless is doing locally.

E.g., using iperf version 1.7:

server: iperf -s
client: iperf -c server -l 64k -t 15 -i 3 -r

3. If you're using Windows before Vista, try setting the TcpWindowSize.

E.g.

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
TcpWindowSize=373760

A reboot is needed for this setting to take effect.

I can't use WPA as Tivo doesn't support it. :(
