Wireless slowed down inexplicably

Hello,

I moved to a new apartment recently and my wireless speed has slowed down inexplicably. I used to get the same exact speeds wirelessly as I do with the regular ethernet cable (about 10kbit according to speedtest.com). Now, when I switch to wireless, I got from 10kbit down to about 2kbit, or worse. Strangely enough, the upload doesn't seem to change at all.

I guess it is possible the router got damaged in the move, but not likely. Could it be interference? Is there something I can check for? I use tomato firmware.

As always, your help is much appreciated.

do you have a lot of neighboring wireless networks, cordless phones, microwaves, etc? try netstumbler to get an idea of the surrounding environment.

also, test your AP on channels 1, 6, and 11.

yes...im not familiar with the tomato gui, but look for some kind of radio or antenna settings. by default, its most likely set to auto-detect.
