Wireless Security On Cell

How (un)secure are cell phones? My wife does banking on hers using our home wireless, work wireless and Verizon data. Any safety measures that she should be taking?

Banking apps are sites are encrypted. As far as other security goes, as long as your wifi is not open or running wep/wpa, you will be a-okay.

Other than encryption, there is no security in a cell phone. Anything transmitted through the air can be intercepted and listened to. Mobile banking is relatively safe. I say relatively because given enough time and money, there is no system than cannot be compromised.

I would think the security weak point is losing a cell phone, particularly if passwords are saved for convenience.

I have played with three different apps for banking.

None of them (laptop or phone (Android/iPhone)) has saved the user ID or password.

I suspect it is for that reason that Tom mentioned. The computer apps have the option of a secondary validation feature.

There is also a very short inactivity life for the connection.
The only thing I do not like on one is that when the connection is dropped; the screen is not reset to the login or safety.
