wireless running slow

Not sure if this is the best section to post but, I have a laptop that is running slow on the wireless connection. I have a wireless network at home and work both with 5 mbit down/ 256 up broadband connection. Website load very slow and downloads are slow. Normally it will run faster at first only (20kb sec) then die in a few seconds down to (4 or 5kb sec) then sometimes a few hundred bytes a sec sometimes timing out. I've bandwidth test and I get about 50 down and 200 up. My upload speeds have seemed fine. I get these speeds on the local network of course too.

Ok, now to my hardware. At work I have a Linksys wireless router, and @ home a Dlink wireless router. All other wireless computers run at fast speeds. First I had a Dlink Air Plug G DWL-G630 pc card which I bought two of originally. It ran good for a long time, about a year. I recently started to get slow loading web pages, I though viruses or something which it doesn't seem to be. I've format my laptop a few times already. I even tried the other card and different versions of drivers with no luck. I tried a co-workers Linksys pc card and had the same problem. I then though the pc card slot is damaged, then I just bought a USB wireless adaptor. I get the same result. I didn't know if maybe the pc card slot bus and the usb bus runs through the same controller that is failing. My laptop is an Ashton Digital Passport 2100. I can't even get in contact with the manufacturer . On their website their entire technical support section is missing and the two phone numbers I've found don't seem to work. Any ideas on how to fix this or get around it.

edit - just to note when connected through the RJ-45 connector it runs like a champ.

Also does anyone know if there is a wireless adaptor that can connect via the RJ-45 connector. I figure if it runs fast with on that connector a wireless adaptor would run fast on it too.
