Wireless Router used as an access point?

Sure, why not. But if you have one wireless router already, do you really need another one? It is possible that the firewall in the wgr614s might create some overhead (just guessing by the way not really sure if this would happen).

I would like to know to.

The second router can extend the range like an access point but what I want is to be able to plug in a few computers in one room by wire and a few more in another room by wire and a wireless network between the routers, and not spend money on separate wireless cards.

well, there's 8 of us living in 2 apartments almost next to each other next year (@ college)...and we're gonna try to share one line (i dunno how successful it's gonna be), so I wanted to connect a 2nd WR as an Access Point to get a stronger signal to the other apartment.

It sounds like you want to purchase a wireless repeater.

Most wireless routers will not be able to retransmit a wireless signal (mode 4). You normally need to feed the router a signal from the modem via CAT5 cable.

Right - and it would be possible to have wireless routers on every floor linked by Cat 5 ot 6 cables.

Basically, a wireless router is an access point. When I installed mine, I was able to access it with my notebook from any room in the house - and out on the street. I could also see my neighbor's. That's when I decided to encrypt that access. :)
