Wireless router suggestions

I'm looking to set up a wireless router in the next few months and I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions. Yes, I've searched and read some of the previous threads on this, but I thought that maybe people would have some suggestions for my specific needs. It will be for my apartment and I'd like to be able to use it at my friend's apartment two down the hall so a good range would be nice, but not essential. A print server would also be great. I'm a bit confused about the 802.11g standard, is it that much better? Quality is more important to me than price. Anyway, any tips?
 
I recently picked up the DLink combo deal. 614+ router & 650 cardbus. I am sending it back. The range is horrible at my house, 20ft through 1 wall. Looking for suggestions for range. I suspect my problem is more in the card than the router.
