wireless router setup help

I know nothing about networking so bear with me, I bought a Linksys WRT54GS today. When I ran the set-up cd, it said that it couldn't detect my network adapter. My network adapter is enabled. I read something on here about having to "bridge" something? Can someone please explain how to do that. Thanks alot

Can you connect the network card directly to your internet connection OK? DSL/Cable router?

I have DSL, i haven't tried to hook up the wireless router to my dsl modem yet because i read that your supposed to install the software first. i have XP pro.

I have the same router. Never used the cd once. Hook it all up and try accessing the router via your web browser:
168.192.1.1

the user should be: admin
password the same iirc..

It's 192.168.1.1

The setup disk for the most part is not required with the router, I have not used any of the setup disks that has come with the 4 four linksys routers I have used and things have been fine.

Does your internet connection work when hooking up the computer directly to the modem?

i'll try hooking up the router to my dsl modem. 192.168.1.1 takes me to my CenturyTel DSL main page where i set that up.

I'm on Centurytel as well. With a Netopia modem.. Here's what I did when first setting up:

Hook Linksys router up to PC without DSL
Access router and change IP address to 192.168.2.1
Might has to restart it or something
then connect dsl modem to router..

now in your browser 192.168.1.1 will still be the DSL and 192.168.2.1 will be the router..

On another topic, I could never get port forwarding set up on this set up for good P2P connections. Tried everything.
