wireless router question

dfuze

Lifer
Right now I have a Linksys B wireless router next to my pc. It is directly connected to
my pc via CAT5 (wireless for the laptops). My question is if I upgrade to a wireless G
router, I know it will make my laptops faster (their cards are G already), but would it
make my pc faster with a direct connection, or a direct connection just like a pass-
through from the cable modem (hope I am not confusing anyone w/ my description)?

Thanks for any help.

Unless there is something wrong with your old router that is preventing it from operating normally, a new router won't make any difference for the speed of the wired connections. It will definitely make a difference for your wireless computer(s) though, as long as they have "G" speed wireless adapters.

It might make it faster.

I had a wireless B linksys router and it would max my connection at about 800kbps from a possible 1.2MBps.
When I switched to the Wireless a+g linksys router I have now, I was able to max out my connection!
