Wireless Router Question

I am getting ready to setup a Wireless G Router (after a year of stealing my neighbors signal).

I want to set it up without and encryption at all, wide open (at least at first).

I want to have the ability to see who is connecting and what ports are being used through their connection. I am wondering is there any third party software apps out there that will allow me to view this information????

Thanks.

Linksys has a log of who is accessing. So does netgear...

If you really don't want encryption.. set a mac filter.

Oh I understand how to secure the router if I wish to, but for now I want it wide open.

I know about the logs, they do not really show to much more then times and who is connected. I would like something to show me details about the connection, I know there is something out there that will do it (I saw it on TechTV a while ago, just can't remember what it is called).

If you want to see whos connecting, go into the DCHP Clients Table. It shows the computer name and IP on the router

OK as I stated before (and I am not trying to be mean for those that are helping) I know I can do this but it's not what I want to see, this only gives me limited information. I would like to see not only the computer name to those conected, but also what the are accessing through the conection, for example what ports are the using (incoming and outgoing) and also what websites are the accessing.

I know there is such a software out there available for this (I saw it on TechTV once), I can't remember the name for it. The App that I saw was free and had a very nice GUI to it for displaying various information.

Dude that's it, I recognize the name already. You are a king among men sir.

Thanks.

with this app you can see what others are searching the internet by using the same wireless network?

shouldn't the lights on the router light up when someone power up their pc connecting to your network? this is what happens to my wired router, shouldn't this be the same to all routers?

you steal your neighbors signal for over a year, and they didn't notice anything for a whole long year? wow, wireless signals are that strong?

Yeah I just stole the internet from him, it's a shame he left his whole connection wide open as well as the default shares on his PC's as well. I think what they need to do is by default secure wireless devices a little bit better then they do. His signal was at about half stregnth by the time it reached me, shich with comcast it's still plenty fast.

all Windows computers have a hidden root share. It shares your entire C:\, as well as any other hard drive letters you have. they get called \\your_computer_name_here\c$ for C: for example...adding a $ makes it invisible to the "My Network Places" browser thingy.

Speak for yourself. You're the one who wants to hack people who are using your public wifi access.
