Wireless router or Access Point??

I have a linksys 4 port router now and just recently got in on the Buy.com dotd for the netgear wireless package (mr314-router and the ma401-pc card).

My question is - Will I get better range with the ME102 802.11b Wireless Access Point or should I just stick with the wireless router and use it as an access point? I need to keep the existing setup.

Is it going to be a PITA to setup the wireless router as just an access point? Will I have to disable some of the features on the router?
