wireless router issue

I have connected my new build to my previously set up network. Basically I am using a broadband modem into a d-link dir655 wireless router. Then I connect my desktop via ethernet.

Here is my dilemma. Since I have brought the new machine home, I am able to connect to the internet via my laptop(wireless) but I am unable to get a connection through the ethernet connection. If I bypass the router and reboot the modem I am able to connect to the internet with my desktop. I have befuddled the tech support at atlantic broadband and D-link.

I am using vista ultimate 64 bit. The techs at both places say that is not an issue.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Please help me.

So do you pull an IP address from the router? Do you have another router that you could try?

And you've tried all the ports on the router?

If you've been on the phone with D-Link tech support, a brief synopsis of what you tried with them might be very helpful.

No sense people suggesting a bunch of things that have already been tried.

Yea what he said. Also, I would question ANYTHING branded Dlink. Their stuff, I'm sorry, is junk. Regardless of how many others may tell you that Dlink products have worked for them, I can tell you of lots that will say the opposite.

And I'm one of them.

Linksys products may not be perfect, but they will usually work.

Figured it out. When my friend set up the router he utilized global mac id's and the new computer was not on the list. I thank you all for your help
