I have some dead spots in my house that I am trying to address. I have a 2wire g wireless DSL router (ATT) connected to my main PC in the lower level of my house, as well as a Powerline system (for my home theater stuff) on the main level.

I have a Belkin n wireless router that I believe would help my connection and speed issues, but I don't know how best to use it as I am stuck with ATT's crappy g wireless router for my DSL service.

I have seen that it is not easy to connect a wireless router behind another wireless router. Can I connect the Belkin wireless n router to my Powerline transmitter on the main level to effectively use it as a repeater???

Welcome to AnandTech forums.

Repeater is a Mode that is done Wirelessly between two Wireless APs and needs two Wireless Router that are compatible with this Mode.

Wireless Modes - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Modes.html

I do not know in which way your Powerline is configured but you can use the Belkin as an additional Wireless by connecting it to the network this way.

Using a Wireless Router as a switch with an Access Point - http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html

Thanks. I tried using the guidelines on ezlan.net to setup my wireless router as an access point, but when I try to reset the wireless router's IP address per the instructions I get an error message that the ip address is already used by guest access???

I have built and configured my own computers from the ground up, but man do I hate networking issues.

tell att to run it in bridged mode.

i'd just use that powerline to turn up a 2nd and 3rd wifi router as access point. anything cheap - then you can have 3 wifi ap's in the house on channel 1,6, and 11

Then assign another number of the same subnet.

Subnet is the first three groups of the IP number. Change the last group to another number (from 0 to 250) that does not clash with the current system.

OK, got it to work by changing the last group number of the subnet.

However, the Belkin manual for the Play router says you should be able to still access the roiuters configuration settings with it in AP mode by entering the new IP address for the router in a browser. When I do this I get defaulted to a Belkin Guest Access login page that asks for a password. When the password is entered I just get a screen saying acees granted you can now open a browser and surf the net.

I can't get into the router's configuration page with it in AP mode. Is this normal?

I do not have a Belkin.

However, there is No reason to play with the AP mode.

Router without AP mode can be used for this purpose too.
