The router where I live is in the main house, I live off in the back in a guest house of sorts. Not sure the distance, but there are plenty of walls and no real way around the wall issue. I have a buffalo external usb adapter with a buffalo hi-gain antenna. It works, but is spotty. I never get much of a signal so my download speeds suffer, sometimes I can't connect at all. Sometimes thought it connects and I get a good connection. I recently tried a Buffalo router, one of the hi-gain antenna ones, it didn't seem to connect as well as my USB + antenna.

So I've decided to look for a better solution, where my PC's at is as close to the router as I'm going to get and I can't make the line of sight any better. BB had a new Hawking Hi-Gain USB Adapter
the antenna is rated a bit stronger than my external one, but I don't always trust specs from manufacturers, and even a bit stronger might not do much of anything.

So my second option I'm seeing is this 15dbi Hawking Corner Antenna
which is about 2x the strength of my current one. The price on it seems very low for what it offers.

Basically what I need is something that deals with walls well, I'm not sure if between directional or omnidirection there's a difference. All I want is something that will improve my signal from where it's at now. I know throwing all the dBi in the world at it won't just magically make my connection 100%. I don't even know what realistically I can expect from a better device. But I know with my current setup, which isn't the best I can achive a semi decent connection most of the time. So my logic is telling me I should be able to come up with a solution that can if nothing else, give me a constant signal, even if it's only @ 20-25%

I know I've posted a ton of messages here about wireless in the past year but I'm getting fed up with the slooow speeds and spotty connection. My budget here is flexable, I don't want to drop $200 but if that's what it will take I'm game.

comments on either product I linked? or new suggestions all together?

thanks in advance.

Taking into consideration wha you already tried I doubt that there is any Antenna would solve your problem.

All the Data that you read about Wireless hardware are done in open environment. Tthere is No doubling, or extending x2, or whatever when it comes to walls and other major obstructions.

The obstructions kill the ?puny? signals and they do not do it in an analog way to accommodate the Wireless manufacturers.

That means that you have to find otherways to extend the wireless (I.e. wires, and or WDS) as described in many posts here (If I recall correctly I even posted few for you). If you cannot implement, or effort the other solutions it means the ?Powers in the Sky? decided that there would not be countable Wireless in the Guest House. ;)

thanks, and yes you have posted in my other threads, I've tried your suggestions and had mixed results, I guess I just have to face facts that my 7dBi antenna is going to yield me the best results I can get, outside of maybe looking into an outdoor antenna and mounting it on the outside roof. I guess I should be thankful I can get a signal strong enough to mostly keep my connected ha.

Out side Antenna would be very good it is amazing the difference in the 2.4GHz signal when there is a clear view as oppose to indoor.

However the Wireless Router (Access Point) has to be close to the Antenna (no more then 6 to 10') longer coax to the Antenna, and you are back to square one).
