For Dallas area, what is the best carrier in terms of signal quality and service. I just cancelled Voicestream because while I like their customer service and rates, I get more dropped calls and lack of signal strength than I care for. I am running a business now, and need the best signal quality I can get for my bucks. My house sits in the middle of a 2 square mile dead spot that only works with analog phones, so I am thinking of going Sprint and getting a dual band (but last time I used Sprint, their customer service was horrible). What other carriers still have dual band?

Verizon has dual-band and has towers erected all over Texas.

According to Verizon's website, they have tri-mode phones (3 digital frequencies), but no dual-band phones (digital and analog).

Mine switches form digital to analog when I drive out to the sticks, so their site is incorrect.

What phone do you use? Voicestream claims most providers are ditching analog and transferring those towers to digital (becaues FCC discontinued analog as of 2003), so maybe Verizon doesn't offer analog on any new contracts?

Their website is incorrect. I have a StarTac 7868 and it's Tri-mode and dual-band, IIRC.

Well I signed up for sprint, I can already use my phone in the house without problems, hope their customer service is better than it was last time.

It probably won't be. They laid off 3000 (yes, three thousand) CS workers recently.

Verizon tri-mode phones work on 800 MHz analog (AMPS), 800 MHz CDMA, and 1900 MHz CDMA. Verizon's AC plan gives you all Verizon digital and analog areas, then reverts to Alltel digital or analog, or Sprint PCS digital to fill in if Verizon doesn't have thier own signal there. You do not pay extra to use Verizon analog, or to roam to Alltel or Sprint on the AC plan. You only pay roaming if you are roaming on a carrier other than Sprint or Alltel.

Return that Sprint phone/plan within the next 14 days, and try Verizon and AT&T. Yes, they both do analog.
