OK, at my dad's place, he currently has broadband through a USB Speedtouch Modem, going to his XP Home HP desktop. Someone else will be working there with him, who has a laptop, also running XP Home.He wants to share the connection he has with the laptop, wirelessly. What would he have to buy to this? Thanks.

A wireless router, if he want to do it the easy way. A wireless networking card if he wants to save a small amount of money and do it the really fvcking hard way.

OK. So would the router go from his current PC (through a usb port), and send the signal out from there? Or would his current desktop also have to receive the signal? Sorry if I'm being too vague, or stupid.

The first question would be whether the usb speedtouch modem has an RJ45 ie ethernet port on it? if yes, then go with the router solution, if no then get a usb wireless adapter and setup an adhoc network for the laptop.
