I just looked at my phone bill for my wireless phone and I noticed they charged me 1 minute for calls that never went through. I normally let it ring once and then I hung up. Are they right for charging me for the minutes even if the call never went in? My phone also said text message not sent, but on the bill they charged me for all the numerous failed attempts (was trying to txt a friend from the lower level of school and reception was bad).

I guess I'll call and see if I can get those minutes back. By the way I have AT&T.

damn oh well I guess I just have to watch out for it next time. Has anyone called in and actually been able to get those minutes back?

Uhhh... they shouldn't charge you for calls that don't go through, provided you hang up in a reasonable time....

AT&T doesn't have an option for the first minute free. They charged me 400 minutes over because of my calls that never went through. I only let it ring once so the person I was trying to contact could know to call my house.

It is standard practice that they start charging you once you start dialing the number. I think even if you get an engaged tone on the other side you still get charged for 1 min.

That is wierd. Having worked in wireless for about 6 years (last was with ATT), I know it's "send to end" on completed calls. But I dunno, When I worked there, all my calls were free. And now, I've never gone over, but now that you mention it IRC seeing a lot of 1min calls....That's ghey if that's how it is. Oh well, what ya gonna do?

Check this out from T-Mobile.

Any fraction of a minute used is rounded up and charged or deducted at the full minute rate; calls or sessions are measured from the time the network begins to process the call (before the phone rings or the call is answered) through its termination of the call.

Or from AT&T

On the AT&T Wireless Next Generation network, usage is measured during the time you are connected to our system, which is approximately from the time you press the button that initiates or answers the call until approximately the time the first party terminates the call.
