wireless on windows 2000

i just installed windows 2000 on my laptop, an old ibm t22. installed drivers for my wireless card etc, and for some reason the connection is showing up as local area connections 2 and not wireless. i can see my wireless network, just can't get on it. any ideas?

Make sure that it is the Wireless Card connector and not Ghost etc. ( http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost ).

Win2000 does not have native Wireless manager, install the original manfacturer utility to configure and control the Wireless.

You can also try the Boingo Utility, t designed for Boingo networks but it works with other systems as well and provides Win XP like control.

i am using the software for the wireless card. the hardware installed correctly, and so did the driver. it still just doesnt work. anyone else has any ideas at all?

It's just a default name for the network connection. Rename it to "wireless" if you like. I actually get a chuckle out of seeing messages like "Wireless -- the network cable is disconnected".

If it's an old adapter / driver set, then you might try dropping down wireless features / security until you get a connection (and then try increasing them back up).
