Wireless not working on Acer laptop

Recently upgraded to WinXP Pro from XPHome. Laptop was connected via wireless for one day. Started the next day and no wireless network found. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Broadcom drivers - no help. Tried restoring back to Win XPHome - no help. Removed Broadcom wireless Mini-PCI card and installed MSI wireless card in it's place with drivers - no help. Installed Netgear wireless G PCMIA card with drivers and then connects to the wireless network. I have two workstations in my home that have been continuously connected to the wireless network with no problems so I know it's not the router. any suggestions?

Slikkster:

Here are the particulars-
Model - AS5004WLMi
Chipset - SISM760GX
Wireless LAN - Mini PCI card with BroadCom BCM94318MPG Chipset

When I look in Device Manager it lists the wireless LAN as operating properly.

So the PCMCIA works fine but both mini-pci fail to sniff a network? Is the wireless button on the front (near the center) "on"? 😛

John,

Wireless button on the front on? I did not see anty button on the front of the laptop. Tthat is exactly what I would be expecting to be the cause since the hardware and driver seems to be loaded correctly. I've heard that some laptops do have a wireless LAN on/off button but I have yet to find it on my laptop.

John,

I just opened up the manual and lo-and-behold there it is. Wireless LAN Button/Light. I assumed that it was only an indicating light. I guess I should have read the manual more carefully. Thanks for your help. I'll try this when I get home tonight.
