wireless not connected - PLEASE HELP

i have an IBM T40 - model 2379-D6U. The wireless connection use to work great. But we were having problems, so I upgraded my Linksys_B to the Lynksys-G (WRT54G to be exact). My brother's laptop works great with it. My PDA connects fine (but internet runs on Blazer so not what I am use to on my comuter where I use IE) So I figure it has to be the internal wireless on my laptop. My laptop sometimes connect but not for long. I ran diagnostics and the info says that everything is working well. I googled and found something that suggested going to linksys logon page and then...
go to the wireless section and select channel 11 and an SSID of your choice....save settings....then go to advanced wireless settings....reduce the beacon interval to 50 and reduce the RTS and fragmentation threshold by 40 each....save settings....restart your wireless PC and check if u are able to connect.
I tried that but it didn't help. I figure that it's not the linksys setting, but most likely my laptop but the diagnostics says it's fine.

What can I do (other than go and buy a new wireless card or new laptop)?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link. On step #3, "Check the Wireless Card Drivers and make sure that the Power saving is Off," where so I go to check this? I looked under Device Manager expecting to find something that says "Power Saving" on or off option but found nothing.

any suggestions?

thanks.
