Wireless networking problems

I have the Intel 2100 wireless card in my Thinkpad and I always have trouble and very sporatic connections with my wireless router at home. My desktops have no trouble connecting and staying connected, but my laptop is a whole other story. I am able to connect at my school and I don't have any problems. I am able to connect at home, but it will keep connecting, dropping, connecting, dropping etc. yet the signal is very strong. Even while I am connected, I can only load small amounts of data, maybe a page like Google at the most, and that alone will take a minute or so. I am using a Linsys BEFW11S4 with the latest firmware. My card is also updated with the latest drivers. I have also tried connecting to a Dlink Extreme G router and still had the same problems.

I'm out of ideas, I've tried everything I know...but it's not enough. Anyone have any ideas?

my roomie has Intel 2100 or 2200 mini card on his Dell 700m and I have Linksys BEFW11S4 with 1.50.14 firmware version and it has been working very well his dell never got dropping. The signal was execellent/strong.
What I did was....
SSID broadcasting disabled
WEP with 128bit strong passphase
MAC (wireless Network Access) with restrict access enabled
Channel 11

That about it.

This problem is weird, becuase you have other clients connecting with no problems.

Normally I would suggest moving the device(s) away from various sources of interference (microwaves, monitors, 2.4Ghz phones)
in this case, I would be critical of the settings on the laptop itself. open up the wireless confguration of your router, and make sure your wireless card matches all the settings of the router. RTS Threshold, Frag. Threshold, DTIM Interval, and Preamble.

You could probably enable Diversity Spread on your antennas, but if the other workstations access fine, then it's probably already on.

I'm not really sure how to check the settings for RTS, Frag, DTIM, and Preamble settings for this router. There doesn't seem to be any page relating to those specific settings.

The weird thing is that it works fine for a couple other laptops that I've tried, with the same card. And this particular laptop also works at my school.

Feels hopeless....

Try uninstall IBM access connections and using the wifi setup in sp2 only. leave ssid to transmit with all other restrictions open. Make sure channels are the same. Uninstall and reinstall the card drivers from the ibm site. Sometimes it takes several reboots.

How do I change the channel of my wireless card? I know how on the router, but not on the card. It seems to be working at the moment, but it does still occasionally drop. I have no idea why.

I'm using the Windows wireless network tool, nothing else for managing the wireless or other networks at the moment.

You don't change the channel on the client device. You would only do that if you were running two or more client cards in Ad Hoc mode. Without an access point. In infrastructure mode, what your using, the card will scan until it finds an AP. Nothing to change.

I got the exact problem! I got a thinkpad T42, with intel wireless 2200BG.

I try to connect to my home network (Dlink-624+). It takes for ages for the dhcp to give me an adress, and when I finaly get one, I can surf th net for about 10 minutes, and it´s down again. But It work fine with my other computer. What model of thinkpad do you got?
