i was thinking on getting the linksys wireless DSL router for my house in my setup i have 2 computers in my room and 1 down 2 levels and a laptop my question is "is it cost effective to wirelessly include my laptop and my 3rd computer or should i just run the wires on a regular router"

PS am i correct to understand to wireless do a destop u need the adapter for $50 and the pc card for $120?

I have a couple laptops in my house and it is really nice having wireless. Sure, you could just run wire to where you want the laptops, but having the ability to pick up and move around is really nice. As for the linksys wireless DSL router, it is pretty nice from what I hear about it. I have a Cisco WAP and it runs flawlessly.

As for doing a desktop, yes, it is $50 for the adapter and then $120 for the card. Doing laptops is cheaper cause you don't need the adapter. 🙂

I would recommend running your desktops on ethernet cable and then using wireless on the laptops.

Please note that Linksys (and most other brands) offers an USB Model that would do the same thing, saves the $50 but uses up a usually free usb port and some desk-space. I prefer these whenever possible, putting the wireless antennae behind the cpu (with the pci adapter) will cut signal strength a bit compared to having it on top of your desk.
