Wireless networking from a far distance??

Ok, here is my dilema. I have a DSL connection at my store. I want DSL at my house but dont wanna pay $60 a month for another DSL line. My house is about 1 city block from the store. I dont know very much about networking, so I am wondering if there is something I can do with a wireless network setup to share the existing DSL line at the store. I dont know if the distance is too far or what. Oh and by the way I live in a town with a population of 1600 people so there is no WiFi or anything high tech like that.

There are some legal issues to this. Yeah, you can do it, but I can't remember if it's illegal to do that. What I mean is I'm not sure if it's legal to share a connection with any other building than it is registered to. IT MIGHT BE legal if it's with the same person, but I'm really not sure.

If you have line of sight between the two buildings, 500-600 feet should be a piece of cake with directional hi-gain antennas.

It is illegal to boost the signal via Transmitter input amplification I.e. feed the 50mw signal into to an amplifier that will transmit at much higher Antenna input. Changing to well designed Antennae without Transmitter input Amplification is not illegal.

In matter of fact well designed Directional Antennae are much better to the Electrical envioroment than an Omni Directional Antenna.

you need line of site for 2400MHz, if you cant get line of site then you have other another option.... you can use a step down converter to 900MHz which will go through vegetation and stuff, then step it back up to 2400MHz on other end.

I've gone as far as 4 miles without an amp, just the proper antenna's, so you shouldn't have a problem with such a short distance.

What kind of bandwidth were you getting at that distance? was that using standard 802.11b equipment, of what brand?

Keep in mind though......anyone in your path with a wireless connection will be able to see yours and potentially log into it.
