Wireless Network with Hardware Firewall

I want to install a wireless network but I don't know anything about it except that I will be buying Linksys hardware.

Is there such a thing as a wireless box with a hardware firewall built in?

WHich one would be the best to get. I think the max computers using it would be 3.

Can I do something like this?

Cable into Cable Modem then out to wireless router (with hardware firewall) out from there to Main computer via ethernet cable. Send signal upstairs to a laptop and 2nd desktop?

All NAT routers incorporate a "sort-of" firewall in them for the WAN zone. It uses NAT to allow and disallow traffic into the network based upon the internal computer's requests. If you spend a little more (about $50) you can buy a higher end WRT54g/s model which incorporates a more intelligent SPI firewall.

As far as client adapters goes you won't find a firewall. Your only option will be to settle with a software firewall.

Wireless Cable/DSL Router get connected to the Cable Modem and than cab be connected via wire to 4 computers and many Wireless computers.

My personal perference:

Best stability, performance, Windows compatibility, and good price, this:

Best price to speed deal is this Router Client Card combo:

D-Link QA is not the best. Some time poeple would need to RMA inorder to get a Good Unit. Buy when it works it works well

Some people like to buy the Linksys WRT54G and hack it.

You pay $59 for the Router + $50 for a Cardbus + $20 to the hackers.

That is about $130.

The hacking unit, if successful, provides WDS and extra power to the unit.

The Buffalo is WDS as is for. So to pay $40 more for Linksys bundle void the warranty and risk frying the unit (which might happen with the Linksys on Extra power).

Nah! I would stay with the Buffalo. :thumbsup:
