Wireless network upgrades??

I have an old Netgear Rangemax pre-memo router which I have turned into an access point. It works great with my slimdevices squeezebox for streaming music, but for computer access anywhere else in the house other than the livingroom(the room the squeezebox is in), sucks. The throughput is awful, and I get constant dropouts. What makes it worse is that the netgear doesn't like to be rebooted at all, otherwise it sometimes gets stuck in a constant reboot cycle which sometimes takes up to an hour to stop.

If I try to connect any other wireless device in any other room of the house, the connection is garbage. Especially in my TV room which is about 30'+ away and down one floor from the netgear. The TV room is where I do most of my wireless computing, and it has gotten so bad that I have now run a long hard-line into the TV room, because the wireless pisses me off so bad.

I do have a hard-line run into the adjacent room to the TV room so I could put a second access point in there, but I am just trying to figure out what my options are.

My question is: What is the current best 802.11g router/access point out there? I have heard great things about D-Links latest products, and have had some good experience with them lately. the last 3 or 4 netgear products i have purchased have been absolute garbage, all of them failing completely or acting weird out of the box.

Would you guys recommend me replacing the netgear alone, or also adding a second access point for the TV room?

help.. :(
