Awhile back I used to have a wired network and shared internet access to the other computers through crossover cables. Is it possible to do the same setup using wireless cards?

I am connected to the modem over ethernet and have a second wireless NIC in my computer and all the other computers have wireless cards. If this is possible, how exactly would I set this up?

Thanks

You set it up just about the same way, your computers should beable to communicate through just the wireless cards, but if I were you I would make my life a lot easier and drop 50 bucks at wal-mart and get a wireless router.

Can you make an ad-hoc connection to multiple wireless NICs in XP? I don't think it's possible.

casper114, i already have a wireless router. It's broken though and is gonna be RMA'd. In the meantime though I'd still like to find a way to keep all computers online.

volrath, I was thinking of using ad-hoc mode together with ICS in XP. Not sure if ICS is designed to work with wireless cards though.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Update:

Just in case anyone is curious about this, adhoc + XP ICS do in fact work together.

My setup is ethernet connected to modem and my wireless card sharing to the 2 other computers.

Works great!

You need a Wireless source. No Wireless source No Wireless connection.

You have to take a Wireless card from one of the computers and put it as a second Card in the computer that is connected to the Modem.

You would configure Ad-Hoc and can use one computer wirelessly through the Ad-Hoc

Alternatively, get for few $$ an extra Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

When the RMA comes back use it as a way to extend the distance of your Wireless Network.
