Wireless network reception problem

I have a US robotics 80211.g wireless router and pc card. The signal strength is usually low even though I'm only 15 feet away going through 1 interior wall.

Which is more likely the problem with the reception...the router or the pc card? Any suggestions on how to improve the reception? Will a different brand pc card work with the router?
 
Twist the antenna on the router around in different directions. See if there's any changes. Orient your laptop in different directions too. See if there's any major changes.
