hello all...I have a netgear MR314 wireless router and netgear MA401 pc card in my sony vaio ultraslim running XP. Setup was super easy and things work great most of the time, but about once or twice a day, I will lose internet connection. Just to be really clear, I mean I will open IE and it will think awhile before displaying 'this page cannot be displayed'. The wireless connection icon still says I have an excellent connection. I have been turning off my cable modem, then the router for about a minute and restarting the laptop which will then work. Just a side note, I have another computer wired into the router and this computer is not affected at these times, only the laptop....hope this isn't too vague. but what do I need to do? Update firmware? thanks in advance, beatniks3

Have you checked to see if there is updated firmware available? You seem to hit on it towards the end of your paragraph. I would check there first, make sure it is all up to date. Also, if you are running XP, check the event log. Maybe something in there may tip you off to a problem.

I am also having similar problems. I just bought a Dell X200 laptop with Dell Truemobile 1150 wireless mini-PCI card. I also just bought a Lynksys wireless router/access point. At first, I could only stay connected for about 4-5 minutes, then everything would die. Sometimes it would say I have a good connection, but I cannot get internet. Other times, it would say no connection available. This was with using 128bit WEP, only allowing certain MAC addresses, and not broadcasting SSID. After a day or two of aggrevation, I have only lost my connection once today. To do this, I am updated my firmware to the latest, now allowing any MAC address, and am broadcasting SSID. The only security I am still using is 128bit WEP. Anyways, I would like to straighten this out, but at least this is livable.

Beatniks, I have found the easiest thing to do when you lose your connection is just to right-click on the wireless connection in the system tray and disconnect (or go to network settings and disconnect/disable). Wait a minute then go to network settings and enable the connection. This seems to be enough to get full functionality of the wireless connection back.

btw... I called Dell about this, they said that I should return their wireless card and buy a lynksys card. This is because the same brands should "play nice" with each other. I see you have the same brand and it doesn't help. I think Dell was just trying to get me off their back, rather than help me. :|

I might actually believe Dell on that one. 128bit Wep can be a bit proprietary and I could see using the same manufacturer for all of my hardware if I was going to be using 128bit Wep.

thanks everyone for the responses. thanks for the tip on the xp log checking, Waveslidin, I'll do that the next time it happens. Going to have to update the firmware I guess and go from there. Intelman07, sorry to hear you share my probelm...I am not using the dmz at all, no need for my setups at home.
