Will a wireless N router provide increased range with wireless G devices? From what I understand, it's the MIMO ability that provides the increased range in N routers that advertise increased range?
There is no such thing as wireless N. There is no such thing as wireless N. There is no such thing as wireless N. It doesn't exist.
That being said pre-draft non-standard pre-waste-your-money stuff does provide slight increase in range due to MIMO. If you are having problems with range your best bet is to find out why you don't have the distance you need.
