wireless N file transfer

so I have wireless N router and adapters on my laptop and desktop and copyed a shared folder of music and pasted it on the other desktop and the transfer is only going around 500kb/sec. Isnt that really low for wireless N? or do you have to optimize something or use a program??? or is this normal? thanks
 
Try changing the channel, I was experiencing horrible speed on Belkins N1 products until I changed to Channel 1 and enabled the 20mhz an 40 mhz
