there are def. advantages to that...

at college we set up a laptop downstairs and used a winamp server upstairs and streamed the mp3s to the laptop, then out the speakers...

however, being able to control your mp3s from any PC means u can set up a playlist somewhere privately if you're having a party so ppl wont fvck with your songs

you know, a cheap laptop still does not come close to the linksys in terms of cost. especially if all you want is to play mp3s.
that's pretty much all we'd use it for, since we have no desire to stream movies or pictures (although the pic thing could be an added little bonus)

while not quite the same thing if you have an ipod I hear apple will begin selling their cradles with audio jacks individually. You can get one for whatever rooms you want and just carry the ipod with you and drop it into which ever cradle your closest too...

will these wireless units be able to plug into lcd screens instead of tv monitors? It'd be nice to have a touch screen instead of using the remote on a tv.

If you have a Playstation 2 and a broadband adapter I recommend this software called Qcast. It lets you stream mp3s to your ps2 from your PC over your home network. It can also do MPEGs and JPEGs. Check out www.broadq.com . There should be a madcatz version of the same product out this summer as well.
