Wireless microphone system

Hey guys,

I'm supposed to be recording and editing a wedding tape, and I think it would be best if the bride and groom both wore wireless mics during the ceremony so you could hear everything on the tape. Any ideas on a good, cheap set? I'm not clear whether I can have two mics on one channel so as to record both, as only one person will be talking at a time. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'd think just one omnidirectional mike near them should suffice. It's a wedding tape, not a broadway production.

I would rent a pair of Telex UHF mics. You should be able to get 2 mics on a single receiver. Make sure you use good Duracell batteries (procell) is fine. I use 14-20 wireless mics at least twice a week and wouldn't trade my telex's for anything under $1k. Let me know if you need model numbers or anything.

Just put 1 mic on the groom. That's all you need.

You can also get cheaper sets though. This mic sounds great and the transmitter & receiver work great!

You really think that the grooms will pick up the bride too? If I should want to add another transmitter, could I add them on the same channel?

I figured it would be the other way around since a man's voice carries farther and the woman might be shorter than him, hence making it more difficult to pick up the sound.

You can rent them at any stage productions house, do a yellowpages.com search for theater rentals and they should have all the info you need. As for using just one mic, it would probably work... but the sound quality and level difference between the two people would be noticable and detract from the final recording itself, i wouldn't recommend using just one mic. Where are you located? I can give you a hand in finding a place that rents if you need it. Thanks.

You clip the mic onto the groom's tux. You NEVER put a mic on the bride! A black mic with wire doesn't look to good on a white wedding dress!

YES. If you get a good mic. The kit I have (See above post) would pick her up even if she whispers the vows. It's a pro mic though. I don't know what your budget it, but it pays for itself and I have used it many times. I love it!
