wireless keyboard/mouse interference

Machine one: XP Pro
Machine two: XP Home
Both using Microsoft Wireless Desktop (keybaord and mouse)
Linksys wireless router and cards
Linksys Cable modem

Machine one is in the office downstairs. Machine two is in my daughter's office upstairs. Approx 50+ feet and a closed door separates them. When my daughter is using her machine, my machine does really funky stuff. Programs open. Default network printer was deleted. IE windows open and the teaxt size if changed to HUGE! While I am typing.... untyped characters appear in the middle of the text and the cursor jumps all over. Keypad numbers lock is switched off.

Any suggestions on how to fix this greatly appreciated.

:)

Have you shut her PC down and tested? Hard to believe that the wireless mouse/key is interfering since it's so far, but anything is possible. I believe the key/mouse run on 27MHz range so its not riding the Linksys Wifi frequency at 2.4GHz/5GHz (not sure if you have 802.11b or 802.11a).

We had this problem ages ago, but then she went off to college and her puter was turned off. I also have two other machines but neither of them are using wireless keyboard/mouse and there was no problem.

she came home form college today, turned on her puter, and lo and behold, my puter is all wonky again!

You didn't really answer my question but I'll assume that you are only having the problem when she is using her PC. So for that reason I will suggest that she uses a wired key/mouse combo for a bit and see if that clears it up. What are the make and models of both sets of key/mouse? Make sure there are no other wireless devices (besides router and adapter) that could possilbly interfere. Are you sure it's 50'+? If the wireless signal is RF (radio frequency) it wont matter if the door is shut, just like the Linksys router (travels through walls, floors, ceilings, etc).

router is 802.11b

keyboard/mouse
Microsoft wireless dektop

sorry I do not quite understand what you meant by 'testing'. when her system is off, there is not problem. When she is on hers, mine goes wonky. This might or might not matter but... My system is now in a downstairs office. While we were renovating our home, this system was in a bedroom upstairs and her computer was going wonky as well as mine. But now that I have moved it downstairs, hers is fine, and mine is not... when she is using hers, that is.

:)!

Prolly depends on the drivers/firmware. Any modern wireless key/mouse should, if not, bad product. I would imagine. If so, change the channel. This is why you should call Microsoft. They'll tell you what it's capable of.
