Wireless is so slow

I moved my computer into another room (private study!), but had to switch over to wireless. I went from 1.5mbps to 457kbps

I am also only getting about 54% signal strength, and my link quality is pretty weak. I am gonna fiddle with the antennas later, see if I can get anything out of them.

even flat out 11g sucks compared to wired

my gf has her rig connecting to the router wirelessly and i hate transferring big files between my computer and hers

Yeah actually it's kind of far away. 802.11a is much, much closer, as close you can get!

Btw something is wrong, you should get 20Mbps actual x-fer on 802.11g.

naw...because of the one letter differentiation he said they were 'close' which is funny because I like being a prick on tuesday mornings and it fits in line with my schedule today...

I think my poor transfer rates are due to my extreamly poor signal strength. I'm not able to move the router, but ill work something out. Worst case is I ditch this whole wireless sceme and attempt to fix the wall connection. Unfortunatly, the brilliant electrion must have been drunk the day he wired up this house. Every room has eathernet in it, but only one room actually works. The pairs are all mismatched, it's a mess. Perhaps this weekend ill fix it, who knows. It has never been a problem until now.

he you'd be surprised how unwelcoming some relestate can be to wireless signals.

Dude...I recommend you get abetter router or jsut get a cheap one and daisy cahign it off of one of the switch ports

Thanks, I think the one I just installed for my parents back home was g. Pretty nice, but not the best signal strength in the house. It works though

In all honesty I am probably going to end up attempting to get the wired working by the end of the week. I do alot of big file transfering, and I need that 100mb/s. but we will see. I fiddled with the antennas a bit and got the signal strength up to 64%, which is netting me just under 1mb/s.

I use a Microsoft b wireless router and I get a great signal (2200k versus 2500k wired), but it's still not stable enough for wireless online gaming.
