Wireless IP cameras

I am curious if anyone has an familiarity with either:

Vstarcam model T7838WIP or the Maygion unbranded cameras (DSN-D9 or HS-YXY-0073A)

They are all about the same price on ebay ($80-$90) but I am trying to find out which one would serve better as a simple baby monitor. I just want to be able to view and listen while I am in the living room watching TV. Both are supported by the android app I am going to use so I just trying to find out which one has a better video/picture quality, is better made, and most importantly which is more reliable to work..

I tried those baby monitors from the store (both 2.4ghz and thire wireles versions) that they charge $180-$300 for and they stink by comparison to Network IP cameras and are FAR over priced.

I have a Foscam. They came in white or black and have both Wifi & Ethernet. They run about $85 and there are apps for smartphones available. Plus they can pan & tilt, as well as see in the dark with IR. Here's a link to the latest version on Amazon:

From the comments, there's an app that works on Android:

I have mine on CAT5 and use an iPhone, works great. Been using it about 2 years now as a baby cam. I don't know how people live without one haha.

I considered the FOSCAM at first. I looked at the 8910W but I liked the features of the 9821W much better. I liked the 720p and H264 compression a whole lot better. I did not like it's price at $160-$180 though.

The cameras I posted are also 720p h264 compression cameras for a fraction of the cost. I was just curious if anyone has used those and knew what the video quality was like.

I have Foscam 8910? the wireless G version prior to them going N and a Trendnet IP422W at my house. The two foscams cost the same as the one Trendnet.

They are very good. To go much better in quality you are talking a lot more money.

If you need facial recognition and license plate reading, you are looking at $200+ per cam easily and will probably be beyond wireless bandwidth for more than a couple cams.

Just a warning if you do look at the HD Foscam, they've actually gotten pretty bad reviews. Read upon Amazon if you decide to go that route. My SD one has been great for about 2 years now as a babycam.

Just another recommendation for a company that is Veteran owned and local to me (they do online orders). They are very personable and can give you honest answers for what works for your situation.

Looks like they have really good reviews. Hell one of the 1 star reviews was by someone that admits they don't even own the HD version but suspects Foscam of giving themselves 5 star reviews.

I did some research on them last week, general reviews around the web too are so-so. The regular SD ones are pretty good. They are handy at work to toss in server rooms for remote visual monitoring. I may pick up an HD one just for kicks to play with to see.

I am thinking it's more about the cost and thinking one is going to get BluRay quality out of them.

The original Foscams got poor reviews in the beginning due to people thinking they would be like $300+ Axis cams.

All the reviews from foscam I've seen seem to indicate that they tend to have buggy firmware and a tendency to release a new model rather than fix the old one. However you're not going to find good quality in Foscam's price range anyways. That starts about $160 a camera.

I have two of their cameras here and have not encountered bugs. It's webcam quality and more than adequate to see what's going on at my home plus I have two way audio with them.

I actually picked up the Maygion camera (it's an unbranded version of a Dericam 502W). It has the P2P easy hook up WPS connection etc. All in all for $80 I cannot complain at all. It is leaps and bounds clearer over the $175 Motorola POS sold at Babies R Us!

It worked over wireles with a very slight delay when viewing it on my PC but when viewed on my Android tablet the delay was longer and the video got choppy. I decided to hook it up wired and when viewed on my PC there was no lag, stutter or delay at all. When viewed on my Android tablet the delay was compared to how my PC was on wireless. I am suspecting that the Android tablet may not be powerful enough to receive the video stream and play it in real time with out the delay (GPU or RAM related probably or both). I don't own the overpriced pad but I suspect they probably run smoother. Still for $80 i'm happy.

Now I would still love to see what the Foscam 9821W looks like compared to this but I don't want to drop $160 on there HD version to see how much clearer it may or may not be compared to what I got.
