So I'm attempting to set up wireless internet....I've run into a couple problems.

1)How should i setup the security? there are like 10 options, wep, this, that, etc lol

2)Should i do wireless b or g, or keep it at its default (mixed)?

3)how will my internet speed be affected by this? like, what if two or three of us are on at the same time?

thanks a lot!

i set up a WPA-PTK security protocol. I disabled SSID broadcasting, made a unique SSID, and made a shared key. The only problem is that my computer cant find the damn network anymore lol.

Edit: i went to the computer with the wireless card and set up the same network with the same shared key and it works. im scared its not connecting to the network on the router have though. like im scared that my internet is still available to anyone. or am i crazy? how can i tell? when i go to wireless connection properties from the wireless card, it shows an open network (linksys) and the network that i created. wtffffffffff

1) Not all wifi adapters support WPA. WPA personal aka WPA-PSK w/ AES is more secure and has less overhead than TKIP.

2) mixed

3) no different than being wired. If anyone is using a torrent client you may want to consider QOS or another bandwidth limiter.

Linksys is the default SSID and sometimes you adapter can cache it for a short period of time. If you've connected to it then you may also have a profile that was created. Try not to use the Windows XP wifi utility (WZC) and stick with your adapters utility.
