I'm next door to a Starbucks, and have a free 1 month trial.

the connection goes up and down like a yo-yo. every 5 min i gota log back in, which is ANNOYING as hell.

i called up tmobile hotspot (they r the provider) and they said since i'm not inside a starbucks, they do not provide support.

i have a dell truemobile 1150 wireless card on my laptop. my connection is between 7-11 db.

so anything i can do on my end?

It could also be because they have a POS wireless router, like the Linksys cheapies they sell at Best Buy. I had one of those and it did the same thing. I bought a Dlink and it solved the problem.

Exactly my experience. My sister bought a rather expensive Linksys router a couple years ago which has been replaced once and been sent for repair one other time, and still refused to work for any length of time. I bought a Dlink for $29.99 and so far have had zero problems. I hate Dlink's client cards but their routers seem to work well. I don't know if I would ever use Linksys again. Wireless stability goes down when there are blockages in your line of site, especially metal which seems to stop wireless signals in their tracks. So if you are outside and their router is in a back room or something, that's why.

That's odd, because I had the same problem with two of them. A good friend of mine had the same problem with a Linksys switch. We both finally switched to another brand and it solved the problem. By the way, the wireless problem was with my laptop using a Dlink card and my Pocket PC which is using a Socket card. Like I said, as soon as I went to a Dlink router, the problem was solved.

Um, go inside the starbucks, of course it drops your connection if you're on the very edge of the functional range of the access point.
